Amoeba is a single-celled eukaryotic species with no discernible structure that travels by pseudopodia. Pseudopodia, also known as pseudopods, are transient cell extensions whose name literally means "false feet." The pseudopodia are used by the cell to move about. To get nourishment, an amoeba employs a mechanism known as phagoctyosis. This is a process in which projections of the amoeba's cell membrane expand and encircle the food particle, completely encapsulating it. The food particle is thus absorbed in a "bubble" known as a vacuole. In the vacuole, the food particle can then be digested. Mitosis is the process through which an amoeba reproduces.
