Dicot roots have a taproot structure, which means they develop deep into the earth as a single thick root with lateral branches. The ground tissue of dicot roots is mostly formed of parenchyma cells and surrounds the core vascular systems of the roots. The xylem is entirely in the heart of the dicot root, while phloem bundles are distributed around it, divided by vascular cambium.
