Oscillatoria is a genus of filamentous cyanobacterium characterized for its oscillatory motion. It is usually seen in watering troughs and is mostly blue-green or brown-green in colour. It is a kind of creature that regenerates by fragmentation. Oscillatoria generates long filaments of cells that can split into hormogonia pieces. It may be found in fresh water ponds. Oscillatoria survives and reproduces through photosynthesis.
