Pinus female cone is a redesigned long. It can be found single or in pairs on the main stem. It is related to angiosperm inflorescence. The female cone is made up of multiple megasporophylls, also known as female flowers or carpels, that are spirally organised around the cone axis. Because it grows in the axil of a scaly leaf, each megasporophyll is a modified dwarf shoot, which is now known as a bract scale.
