A compound microscope is a high magnification microscope with a compound lens system. There are mainly two types of Lenses found in a compound microscope such as t the objective lens (usually 10x, 40x, or 100x) is compounded (multiplied) by the ocular or eyepiece lens (often 10x) to achieve magnifications of 100x, 400x, or 1000x. Instead of a single magnifying lens, two lenses are used to obtain greater magnification. While the eyepieces and objective lenses provide extreme magnification, a condenser underneath the stage directs light into the sample.
